At SMX Advanced 2007 Matt Cutts and Danny Sullivan sat down to discuss search engine marketing and field questions from the crowd. One of the audience members asked Matt how Google is going to respond to the rise in link buying in the search engine marketplace. Matt explains that link buying IS against the practice of link buying and warns those who are participating in such schemes may face tough times ahead as Google works harder to remove them.

Just received an ... Just received an email from a very well known site with the offer to buy a backlink for $150. I immediate unsubscribed from? this person's list. In my opinion, it's illegal but on the other hand, some would call it "advertising." Frankly, it's not worth the risk.
Buying links is a ... Buying links is a really hard decision.On the one hand Matt warns, but on the other hand I see bought links work pretty well. I checked all backlinks manually of the TOP 5 for a competitive keyword (no real fun!!) and all of them have had bought links.On the? other hand its really hard to get a top 5 ranking without paid links.
